In 2006, seeing the steady progress being made by Ikale Progressive Association (IPA) in NY/NJ, Durojaye Odimayo Akindutire, who was then the president of IPA, was mandated to reach out to other Ikale in North America on the formation of an all-encompassing Ikale Association. The initial breakthrough came when he invited other Ikale to the end of the year gathering of the Egbe in New York. Prince Rinde Akinsola and Dr. Salewa Olafioye honored the invitation. Akindutire presented the mission of IPA and the trio sat through the night to discuss the birth of IWC. This was how Ikale World Congress (IWC) began.
Dr. Akindutire shared the discussions/consultations he had with other Ikales, and narrated the vision and mission for IWC to IPA. These three individuals shared information and projected what should be the way forward for IWC.
The Leadership of the Ikale Progressive Association NY/NJ then that saw to the establishment of IWC were-Mr. & Mrs. Ayo Lijirin, Mr. & Mrs. Babatunde Basorun, Dr. & Mrs. Benson Akingbemi, Mr. & Mrs. Adelokiki, Dr & Mrs. Odimayo Akindutire, Dr & Mrs. Olokungbemi, Mr. and Mrs Abiodun Adelokiki, Mr & Mrs Bamgboye, Mr. & Mrs. Omowole, Mr. Babatunde Omolola, Mr. & Mrs. Babatunde Ogunwolere, Chief (Dr.) & Chief Mrs. Aiyeku, and Mr & Mrs. Kola Akindutire.
The trio continued the discussion and regional/state coordinators were incorporated. This led to the first inaugural convention held in Maryland which was fully attended by Ikale indigenes from different states in the US and Canada. Lots of emotions were expressed and Ikale rose unanimously to say that there should be NO election as scheduled but that the hitherto coordinators should continue to direct the affairs of IWC. With the addition of 2 other ikales at the convention the following individuals emerged; Chief Iyiola Aiyeku, Salewa Olafioye, Yinka Ibitoye, Felix Awotula, Bamidele Bajowa, Olurinde Akinsola, Samuel Akinbolue, Durojaye Odimayo Akindutire. These eminent Ikale later met as the Board of IWC where Dr. Salewa Olafioye was named the board chairman.
At the formation in 2000, there were three affiliations of Ikale World Congress called chapters; they include New York, Texas, and Maryland. Later in 2008, four additional local chapters became members, these include Dallas, Missouri, Philadelphia and Atlanta.
The first elected Executive members emerged in 2009 at Houston convention with the following officers; President – Durojaye Odimayo Akindutire; General Secretary – Omooba ‘Dokun Faduyile; Treasurer – Mr. Sam Ademola; Social Secretary – Mr. Anthony Adelokiki and Publicity Secretary – Mr. Tunji Ogunmola.
To collaborate with one another with love and work tirelessly with passion to facilitate a sustainable project that generate traffic, as well to enlightening the Ikale citizens and enhance development across the region.
The IWC objectives is to promote unity among Ikale people worldwide; to preserve and promote Ikale cultural heritage; and to provide humanitarian assistance to Ikale communities worldwide.
Ikale World Congress Convention was first held in Maryland in 2006. The convention aimed at bringing together Ikale people from all over the world to celebrate our culture, heritage and to discuss issues that affect Ikale development in Nigeria. The IWC members connect individuals who share similar interests, goals, or values. The convention provides a platform for members of the organization to network, exchange ideas, and collaborate on projects or initiatives that advance their shared mission.
